Rainham Station Platform ReโDecking โ Platforms 1 & 2
Client: CML Construction Marine Ltd
Project Duration: 14โday blockade with weekend possessions and midweek line blocks
Location: Rainham Station, Kent
Contractor Scope: Steelwork fabrication, surveying, and installation
Project Overview
LTR was appointed by CML Construction Marine Ltd to refurbish the life-expired suspended platform structures at Rainham Station, Kent. The project involved the full renewal of approximately 170 metres of platform decking across Platforms 1 and 2, replacing deteriorated structural elements with newly fabricated steelwork to deliver a safe, compliant, and durable long-term solution.
The works were delivered within a 14-day blockade, commencing on 24 July, incorporating two 27-hour weekend possessions and multiple midweek line blocks. Throughout the programme, Platform 2 remained fully operational, requiring careful management of a live public interface alongside continuous passenger and freight train movements.
LTRโs scope included 3D point cloud surveying, production of fabrication and general arrangement drawings, manufacture of over 70 tonnes of structural steelwork, and installation during planned possessions. The use of detailed surveying ensured accurate integration with the existing ageing infrastructure and minimised installation risk.
Despite a fixed, non-extendable programme and a highly constrained live railway environment, the project was delivered safely and on time. Platform 1 was reopened to the public on 7 August, fully compliant with Network Rail standards. The completed works provide a robust and durable platform structure, enhancing safety, structural performance, and passenger experience.
